Sobre el programa...
Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major, written from 1842 to 1843, is dedicated to cellist Mateusz Wielhorski. The piece comprises four movements: Allegro assai vivace, Allegretto scherzando (in B minor), Adagio (in G major), and Molto allegro e vivace. The sonata is around 25 minutes and combines lyricism with Mendelssohn’s characteristic elegance and clarity. In this session, Professor Sung-Won Yang helps Ji Young Noh explore the various tonalities of the cello, which gives the music a different sound even though it’s still on the same instrument. They also dive into how to make phrasing convincing with some musical risk-taking. South Korean cellist Sung-Won Yang performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. He studied under Philippe Muller and János Starker, and has appeared in major venues across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
