Sobre el programa...
Preeminent violinist and New England Conservatory faculty member Miriam Fried works with Edi Kotlyar on the Allemande from Bach's Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002 at a master class at the Villa Sandra Lesa in Italy.
Likely written during Bach's time in Cöthen in 1720, his six unaccompanied sonatas and partitas for solo violin represent the pinnacle of the instrument's solo repertoire, featuring incredible technical and expressive variety and requireing extraordinary skill. The Partita No. 1 in B minor follows the traditional form of Allemande, Courante, and Sarabande, but then substitutes a Bourée for the more usual Gigue. Also unique is the inclusion of a variation section of each movement, named using the French word double.
