Sobre el programa...

Known simply as "The Sound" because of his warm, singular tone, Stan Getz made an impact on jazz that cannot be understated. One of the all-time great tenor saxohonists, Getz came of age in the 1940s, made his mark when bebop and cool jazz were all the rage before going on to experiment with bossa nova and samba crossovers. His list of collaborations reads like a roll-call for heaven's all-star group: Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Joâo Gilberto, Chick Corea and many more.

This concert is of huge importance in his filmography as the last time Stan Getz played in public. He is joined by a rhythm section made up of bassist Alex Blake and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, with Kenny Barron and Getz on horns while Eddie Del Barrio and Frank Zottoli work in color on synths. Getz was deep into his battle with cancer by this point in 1990, yet still touring for his album Apasionado. A truly special occasion, this audience witnessed the last time his famous sound escaped out into the night air. He died the following summer and will forever be remembered as one of history's greats.
