Chopin's concertos: a medici.tv 10-minute guide
Pianist and educator Ben Laude takes a deep dive into Chopin's two beloved Piano Concertos
Sobre el programa...
Every piece composed by Frédéric Chopin includes the piano, the instrument to which he brought a passion and poetry that have made him beloved by pianists for two centuries. Most of his works are piano solos, but he also wrote a handful of concertante works, the greatest of which are the two Piano Concertos. Both crafted by a remarkably young Chopin at age 19-20, these are no youthful flights of fancy — they are serious, mature, and soulful major works that still find great favor among pianists and listeners for their combination of dazzling virtuosity and achingly beautiful melodies. Take a deeper dive into the exuberant Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor and plaintive Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor (actually composed before No. 1!) with pianist and music educator Ben Laude, who provided valuable insight on location at the 2025 International Chopin Piano Competition and who maintains a popular YouTube channel @benlaudy.
