Sobre el programa...
It is May 1, 1993 and the renowned Berliner Philharmoniker has brought the annual Europakonzert to London’s Royal Albert Hall to celebrate the 111th anniversary of the orchestra’s founding — alongside two special guests, maestro Bernard Haitink and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, in some of the most emblematic works in the orchestral repertoire! The concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s poetic overture-fantasy Romeo and Juliet, followed by Mozart’s spirited Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major with the superb Zimmermann in the solo role. A true 20th-century musical masterpiece whisks us into the second half of the evening; Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring stuns with experimental harmonies, rhythmic innovation, and unmatched energy. The glittering “Waltz of the Flowers” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is the joyous and majestic finale in this exceptional concert, and brings the third edition of the now-legendary annual tradition to a close.
