Russian pianist Denis Matsuev takes to the stage of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw for a solo recital of works by Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Stravinsky.
Denis Matsuev is a true piano superstar: first-prize winner of the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1998, he now performs regularly on the most prestigious stages, presenting solo recitals, chamber music and concertos alongside acclaimed conductors like Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Zubin Mehta, Paavo Järvi, Mariss Jansons, and many others.
The program features Tchaikovsky's The Seasons (probably the most popular piano score for all Russians) to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the composer's birth in 2015, as well as another Romantic piano work, Schumann's Kreisleriana. The concert ends with Stravinsky's Three Movements from Petrushka.
The Master Pianists series was founded in 1987 by Marco Riaskoff and is organized by Riaskoff Concert Management, an internationally-renowned management agency for classical musicians. For many years now, the Master Pianists series has been among the most prestigious piano series in the world. Ever since its 1987-1988 inaugural season, the series has guaranteed recitals of exceptional quality by the world’s most revered pianists. The Master Pianists series not only presents pianists of established international renown: each season it also offers opportunities to at least one promising young pianist. For many talented young pianists, such a recital is seen as another step on the path to a major career.
