Sobre el programa...

Introducing Philopéra, the symphony orchestra created by musicians of the Paris Opera! Take your seat at their inaugural concert led by one of today’s most sought-after conductors, Daniel Harding. Usually accustomed to the orchestra pit, the musicians are now taking the stage to show off their unique sound forged through years of experience playing the world's greatest opera music. And what better repertoire to begin with… First up is Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, an exuberant, dancing, melodious work whose conversing orchestral “voices” and Rossinian final movement conjure the vivacity and interplay of opera. Next comes Gustav Mahler’s great “Titan” Symphony No. 1, a colossal masterpiece blending klezmer and Bohemian folk music influences with German lieder and a famously dark parodic version of “Frère Jacques.” This suitably theatrical program is brought to life with exceptional musicality by the players of the Philopéra at the magnificent Palais Garnier.
