Sobre el programa...
Witness the great maestra Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla taking the helm of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the company of young cellist virtuoso Sheku Kanneh-Mason in a superb and poignant program, at the Royal Albert Hall, complete with two BBC Proms premieres!
The program begins with Dorothy Howell’s Keats-inspired Lamia, first performed at the BBC Proms 100 years prior in 1919. Kanneh-Mason then offers a supremely emotional interpretation of Elgar’s Cello Concerto, stormy and virtuosic. Next is a vibrant homage to the late Oliver Knussen, with “The Way to Castle Yonder,” taken from his beloved Higglety Pigglety Pop!, followed by a concluding exclamation point: Mieczysław Weinberg’s short and supercharged Symphony No. 3, performed for the first time at the Proms to mark the occasion of the composer’s centenary.
