Sobre el programa...

One master pays tribute to another in this stunning recital, recorded in 1989 by Bruno Monsaingeon's cameras! Hungarian piano legend Sir András Schiff plays works by Johann Sebastian Bach, starting with the effervescent Italian Concerto in F Major. You can count on one hand the number of pianists who think as deeply about Bach, or play his music as well, as Schiff—and in this spellbinding program, the virtuoso wrings every ounce of expression from the score while respecting Bach's finely wrought architecture.

Schiff's crystalline tone and phrasing are on full display in note-perfect readings of the Capriccio in B-flat (an early work brimming with nostalgia), the G-major French Suite, and—as a bold finale—the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, all while Monsaingeon's dynamic camera captures the elemental drama of Schiff's playing. Bach doesn't get better than this…
