Born into a family of the famous conductor of the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre – Victor Fedotov, Maxim studied violin at the Moscow State Conservatory and conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
Maxim Fedotov has appeared at the world most famous venues: Barbican Hall (London), Symphony Hall (Birmingham), Finland (Helsinki), Konzerthaus (Berlin), Gewandhaus (Leipzig), Gastieg (Munich) , Alte Oper (Frankfurt am Main), Auditorium (Madrid), Megaro (Athens), Musikverein (Vienna), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), Symphony Hall (Osaka), Verdi Concert Hall (Milan), in the halls of the Cologne Philharmonic, the Vienna State Opera, the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia, and many others. Performs with the major orchestras of the world with famous conductors. For the past 10 years Fedotov has given more than 50 solo and symphony concerts in the Bolshoi Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
Important part of Fedotov's artistic life takes concert activity and recordings in duet with pianist Galina Petrova. Among his recordings are 24 Caprices by Paganini (DML – classics) and CD series – "All Compositions for Violin and Orchestra by Bruch" (Naxos). He is the first violinist, who gave a recital playing the two Violins left by Paganini – Guarneri del Gesù and Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (St. Petersburg, 2003). For 3 years since 2003 Fedotov was a Chief Conductor of the Russian Symphony Orchestra.
In 2006-2010 has held a post of an Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra "Russian Philharmonia". With this orchestra Fedotov made about 100 symphony programs, opera productions, gala concerts at the major Moscow concert venues, has collaborated with many prominent soloists, etc.
Today Fedotov combines the activities of a concert violinist and symphony conductor. Special place in musician's activity takes cooperation with the St. Petersburg House of Music, where he works in the Young performers Program as a conductor and as a violin professor, giving master classes. Fedotov permanently collaborates with a number of major Russian and foreign symphony orchestras.
