Javier Camarena

Javier Camarena was born in Veracruz (Mexico) and studied voice at the Guanajuato University. In 2004, he won the first prize at the "Carlo Morelli" singing competition in Mexico and the Juan Oncinas award at the" Francisco Viñas" competition in Barcelona in 2005. He is currently coached by Francisco Araiza.
He made his debut in 2004 in Mexico at the Palacio de Bellas Artes singing Tonio in La Fille du Régiment. In Mexico, he subsequently performed Belmonte (The Abduction of the Seraglio), Nemorino (L’Elisir d’amore), Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Dorvil (La Scala di Seta).
Since April 2007, Javier Camarena has been engaged as a soloist at the Zurich Opera, where he sang Lindoro in the new production of L’Italiana in Algeri (with Vesselina Kasarova), Almaviva in Barbiere di Siviglia by Paisiello and Rossini, Belfiore in Finta Giardiniera, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Stimme eines Seemanns in Tristan und Isolde as well as Fileno in Fedeltà premiata by Haydn, Mosè in Egitto, Nadir in Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Rodrigo in Rossini's Otello (webcast live on medici.tv).
He was also invited to sing Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and Italiana in Algeri at the Vienna State Opera and at the Paris Opera, Lindoro in Cologne, Dusseldorf and Dresden, Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at the Brussels Opera, as well as La Sonnambula and La Donna del Lago at the Paris Opera.
Further plans include Le Comte d’Ory, Così fan tutte and The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Zurich Opera, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Sonnambula at the Metropolitan Opera, La Cenerentola in Paris, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Munich and San Francisco, as well as Maria Stuarda at the Liceu in Barcelona.
His concert engagements included Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Guatemala, Mozart’s Requiem with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Michoacan, various opera galas at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and concerts with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and with the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst.
