Brigitte Engerer starts studying the piano at the age of five. Ten years later, she is awarded the first prize at the Paris Conservatory (Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris). After a reward at the Long-Thibaud competition, she goes to the Moscow Conservatory, where she spends nine years studying with Stanislav Neuhaus.

In 1980, she makes a life-changing encounter with Herbert von Karajan, who notably invites her to play with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1982. At about the same time, she is invited by Daniel Barenboim to perform with the Orchestre de Paris, and by Zubin Mehta to play with the New York Philharmonic.

During her career, she performs in the most prestigious venues through the world, and plays with the best international orchestras: Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre national de France, the philharmonic orchestras of Berlin, St. Petersburg, Munich, de Detroit, the symphony orchestras of London, Vienna, Toronto, Montreal... She was regularly invited by the greatest festivals, such as those of La Roque d’Anthéron, Aix‐en‐Provence, Colmar or Monte‐Carlo…

Among her multiple partners on stage, let's mention Henri Demarquette, Olivier Charlier, the Accentus choir, Gérard Caussé, Boris Berezovsky or Alexander Kniazev.

Brigitte Engerer was a teacher at the Paris Conservatory.

Her long discography on the Harmonia Mundi, Decca, Philips and Mirare labels reflects the vastness of her repertoire, ranging from the best-known (Chopin, Rachmaninov...) to rarer composers (Louise Farrenc).
