American cellist Alisa Weilerstein has attracted widespread attention for playing that combines a natural virtuosic command and technical precision with impassioned musicianship. At 28 years old, she is already a veteran on the classical music scene having performed with the nation’s top orchestras, given recitals in music capitals throughout the U.S. and Europe, and having regularly appeared at prestigious festivals. She is also a dedicated chamber musician.
In November 2009, Ms. Weilerstein was one of four artists selected to perform at the White House classical music event that included student workshops hosted by the First Lady, Michelle Obama, and performing in concert for guests including President Obama. Other highlights of Ms. Weilerstein’s 2009-2010 season include her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Daniel Barenboim on April 27 in Berlin and the orchestra’s European Concert on May 1st in Oxford, England, performing Elgar’s
Cello Concerto. The Oxford concert will be televised worldwide and also released on DVD. In May she will also make her Los Angeles Philharmonic debut with Music Director Gustavo Dudamel performing the Dvorak
Cello Concerto.
In summer 2010 Ms. Weilerstein will perform at the Spoleto Festival USA, the Virginia Arts Festival, Tanglewood and the Aspen Music Festival. She will return to Europe in July for performances at the Bad Kissengen Festival in Germany or the BBC Proms among other European festivals.
