One of the most important events of the classical music scene, this legendary competition is marked by the victories of virtuosos it has brought into the spotlight. The event has taken place once every four years since Van Cliburn’s historic victory in 1958, and is now in its 16th edition. From June 17th to 29th in Moscow and St. Petersburg, 231 candidates will compete for the First Prize, not to mention a shot at the Grand Prize (awarded only three times ever)! The groundbreaking 2019 edition marks the arrival of two new instrument families: woodwinds and brass join piano, violin, cello, and voice.
