Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse (Master classes)

Halle aux grains, France

Master classes

The second Académie internationale de Direction d'Orchestre, founded by Tugan Sokhiev and the Orchestre national du Capitole in April 2016, will take place from 18-20 October 2016 at the Halle aux grains in Toulouse. An opportunity for young conductors to learn orchestral conducting technique at the beginning of their career, this academy testifies to the desire of the Orchestre national du Capitole and its musical director to communicate their experience to the next generation of musicians.

In this academy, I am trying to explain in particular how a conductor can communicate musical ideas with gesture, with body language. When it comes to gesture, the baton has little importance. What is essential is being connected with and enter into the music. —Tugan Sokhiev

For this year's Académie, four participants were selected:

  • Pierre Mosnier, assistant conductor (with David Molard) of the Orchestre des Jeunes d'Île-de-France since 2014
  • Victorien Vanoosten, assistant conductor (with Lawrence Foster) of the Opera de Marseille since November 2014
  • Andrei Feher, assistant conductor (with Paavo Järvi) of the Orchestre de Paris in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016
  • Gevorg Gharabekyan, conductor and artistic director of Kammerorchester I TEMPI in Basel (since January 2013)
