Since the 1st Chopin Competition which took place during the winter of 1927, the Competition has highlighted the Franco-Polish composer’s works and rewarded its best interpreters. The Competition takes place every five years in Warsaw. It has helped discover such talents as Lev Oborin, Bella Davidovich, Adam Harasiewicz, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Garrick Ohlsson, Mitsuko Uchida, Krystian Zimerman, Yundi, Rafał Blechacz, Yulianna Avdeeva and Daniil Trifonov.

84 competitors have been selected to participate in the First Stage of the Competition. Among them are 15 Polish, 15 Chinese, but also Japanese, Korean, American, Canadian, British and Italian young pianists. Judged for their technical skills but also for their understanding of the Chopin “soul”, the candidates will compete from October 3 to October 20. Following the last day of the Grand Finale on October 20, the Prizes will be awarded. The winners are voted by an international jury that comprises great pianists (including prize-winners from the past Competitions: Adam Harasiewicz, Martha Argerich, Janusz Olejniczak and Yundi), teachers, pedagogues and specialists of Chopin’s music.
