Gramophone selects (MARCH 2019)

MARCH 2019

Riccardo Chailly is the focus of our March issue and we delve into the medici.tv archive for a documentary as well as two concerts featuring him in Lucerne and Berlin. Looking at Puccini, we’ve Turandot as well as two productions of La bohème - one likely to rustle a few feathers (it’s set on the moon) and one highly traditional, with Mirella Freni and Luciano Pavarotti in the central roles. Our Young Artist this month is Martin James Bartlett, newly signed to Warner Classics - catch him in Mozart with Bernard Haitink and in a masterclass with Richard Goode. Talking of great pianists, our Archive film travels back to 1966 for Emil Gilels in Paris and we’ve another opera this month, Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito conducted by the musician of the moment, Teodor Currentzis.
