Svetlanov in the Spotlight

Venerable conductor, composer, pianist, and standard bearer of the great Russian conducting tradition, Evgeny Svetlanov left an indelible mark on the music-making of the 20th century. As principal conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre and Russian State Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor of prestigious orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker. He was a sought-after interpreter of the Russian classical canon: from Glinka to Tchaikovsky, from Rimsky-Korsakov to Miaskovski. Founded in 2007 to celebrate his memory, the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition takes place every four years and offers talented young conductors an impressive array of prizes and conducting opportunities, including a chance to conduct the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France as part of their regular season!
