Program notes

Following Joyce DiDonato's recital webcast live from Carnegie Hall on medici.tv in November 2014, discover the charismatic mezzo-soprano in three public master classes given in the new Resnick Education Wing at Carnegie Hall!

As part of her Perspectives residency, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato mentors four young opera singers over the course of three days, rehearsing solos and duets in Carnegie Hall's Judith and Burton Resnick Education Wing. The singers will alternately work on operatic arias, including masterpieces by Mozart (Don Giovanni, La Clemenza di Tito, Le Nozze di Figaro) and Handel (Serse, Giulio Cesare).

The four participants are soprano Alison King, soprano Narea Son, mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker, and tenor Gerard Schneider. Ms. King is a recent graduate of the Yale Opera Studio. Ms. Son is currently working toward her master's degree in opera at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Ms. Decker is in her third year of study at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. Mr. Schneider is currently a trainee at the National Opera Studio sponsored by the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Workshops and master classes are offered through Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. These artist-training opportunities provide unique opportunities for young professional musicians to explore many aspects of musical life. Participants delve into repertoire and gain insight and tools to nurture their artistic vision by working alongside the highest-caliber artists, and they learn ways to communicate and connect with audiences, building a sense of community to last throughout their careers.

Workshops and master classes are made possible, in part, by Mr. and Mrs. Nicola Bulgari and The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation.

The Joan and Sanford I. Weill Music Room is located on the Lily and Edmond J. Safra Education Floor of the Judith and Burton Resnick Education Wing.
