Program notes

The Latvian National Opera honors its corps de ballet’s centenary with a rich program of celebrations. On December 1—the date of its first performance of La Fille mal gardée in 1922—you are cordially invited to enjoy the festivities, a once-in-a-century celebration of one of the world’s greatest dance traditions! Don’t miss an exceptional lineup of ballet stars, including Latvian-born Evelina Godunova, a soloist at the Berlin State Ballet, making an emotional return to the stage where she debuted at age 11 in Swan Lake; celebrated La Scala principals Nicoletta Manni and Timofej Andrijashenko; and Young Gyu Choi of the Dutch National Ballet, candidate for the 2022 Dancer of the Year Award!

The concert is directed by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and Farhads Stade, who show off the spirit and strength of the company, as well as their versatility—they regularly perform world-famous, classic ballets, as well as local, contemporary repertoire under the vigilant direction of the tireless Aivars Leimanis, himself a former leading soloist of the Latvian National Ballet.

This is just one of many beautiful ballets available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
