Program notes

Emmanuel Villaume works with singers from Juilliard's Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts on duets and ensembles from Bizet's Carmen and Les pêcheurs de perles, and Massenet's Werther, in a master class live from Paul Recital Hall in New York City.

French-born conductor Emmanuel Villaume is known for drawing captivating performances from orchestras around the globe. Now entering his fourth season as Music Director of The Dallas Opera, he was recently described by the Chicago Classical Review, as "almost without peer in [French] repertory... his conducting provides a virtual seminar in how French opera should be performed." His expertise is put to great use in this master class with talented young singers of The Juilliard School's Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts, which features selected duets and ensembles from work by the celebrated French Romantic composers Bizet and Massenet.
