Program notes

Bobby McFerrin leads an all-star group of internationally-renowned musicians in a remarkable musical evening at the intersection of classical music and jazz, recorded live at Miami’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall in 2013.

From Stravinsky to Gershwin, Bernstein to Cage, and Goodman to Yo-Yo Ma, musicians across the globe have experimented with combining jazz and classical music in different ways. This concert represents one of the most exciting and successful examples of this artistic fusion and took place as part of the Jazz Roots concert series. Together the star-studded ensemble (Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, Terence Blanchard, Mark O’Connor, Eric Owens..) performs jazz standards (Autumn Leaves, The Man I Love), Americana (Simple Gifts), classical favorites (Bach’s C Minor Fugue), and much more, but presenting each with a fascinating twist!
