Program notes

Relive this high flying concert, recorded in 2021 during the first edition of the Bayfront Jazz Festival, held on the date of the UNESCO International Jazz Day.

Pianist and composer Gonzalo Rubalcaba and singer, pianist, composer, and actress Aymée Nuviola, both of Cuban descent and childhood friends, bring you to the border between Jazz and Afro-Cuban Music. Along with their fantastic band, they play works from their 2020 live album titled Viento y Tiempo.

The two illustrious musicians, the recipients of multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, gift you with a masterful performance in the midst of Biscayne Bay's festive and exciting atmosphere. Jazz meets popular Cuban tunes, such as Compay Segundo's beloved Chan Chan (made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club), Lágrimas Negras by Miguel Matamoros, or Bemba Colorá by José Claro Fumero.
