Chick Corea and his Akoustic Band (John Patitucci, Dave Weckl) retrace their greatest hits during this mythical concert performed at the Malta Jazz Festival in 2018. Chick Corea is no longer a mere household name: he is an undisputed genius of twentieth century jazz, and was instrumental in the creation of jazz-rock alongside other legendary artists in the late 1960s. This concert is a masterful and subtle expression of an impeccable musical quality that borders on perfection, all synthesized within major compositions of Corea's career, such as Morning Sprite.
Let us roll back the years of jazz history: the Akoustic Band was formed in 1989, it brought together Chick Corea, John Patitucci, who played with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Roy Haynes, and Dave Weckl, who has worked with Benson, Anthony Jackson, and Robert Plant. In 1990, their first album was awarded the Grammy for best jazz instrumental performance. To this day, the band symbolizes Chick Corea's return to acoustics after his electric period of the 70s and 80s. This magnetic performance is an opportunity to rediscover the indelible talent of this jazz pioneer, who unfortunately, as Bach beautifully said in his Ultima verba, has also left us to go "where the music was born"...
