Program notes

At Jazzdor Festival in 2012, Billy Hart and his quartet interpret original compositions and jazz standards covers with great skill and talent. Drummer Billy Hart’s career is simply monumental: he first trained with the Montgomery Brothers, then went to New-York in the seventies to play with McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock. Watch him here at his best, playing  alongside Mark Turner, Ben Street and Ethan Iverson.

He is officially a jazz master since his nomination in 2022 by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This consecration is the logical conclusion to an atypically long and impeccable career. He has been involved in the evolution of jazz for 60 years. Still active at 81 years old, he is now in the restricted club of great jazz masters.

This is just one of over 500 amazing jazz concerts available on medici.tv!
