Program notes
In spring 2011, Jean-François Sivadier put on La Traviata in Aix-en-Provence, under the direction of Louis Langrée and with Natalie Dessay taking on the role of Violetta.
For two months, in the rehearsal rooms backstage at the Théâtre de l’Archevêché, a team followed the work and lives of the artists very closely. We had been given a really rare opportunity: they welcomed us into the rehearsal studio from the second day and tolerated our presence during all the rehearsals, says the director.
Becoming Traviata is not Philippe Béziat’s first film on music. We could also mention Les noces, in which he follows the rehearsals of an actress and a conductor on Lake Geneva in Switzerland, or Pelléas et Mélisande, Le chant des aveugles filmed in 2009.
