Program notes

“Destination: Joy”, the first episode of the Sensations series, is a compilation of some of the most dazzling and festive selections from classical music masterpieces. Carbonated musical moments include gems of the repertoire like Haydn’s Symphony No. 8, the champagne aria (“Fin ch’han dal vino”) from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony, Fauré’s Violin Sonata No. 1, Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals, Poulenc’s Clarinet Sonata, “I got plenty o’ nuttin’ ” from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, the Overture to Bernstein’s Candide, and Thomas Adès’s Ecstasio from Asyla

In four episodes, the Sensations series offers an introductory voyage through three centuries of music. Composers, performers, and listeners share the emotions that the greatest masterpieces awaken in them. Go on a road trip with “Monsieur L”, whose “musical escapades” bring the classics even closer to us.
