Program notes

This documentary presents the behind the scenes of Musica Mundi, a prestigious course and classical music festival. The Musica Mundi summer course is exclusively for young and talented musicians who come to Genval in Belgium to practice Chamber music.

Each summer since it was established in 1999, Musica Mundi gathers 65 youngsters under 23 years old across all nationalities. It is a selective course - 65 applications are chosen from around 250 official requests - accessible to all - pupils may benefit from a grant, made possible thanks to participation from patrons and sponsors.

Musica Mundi thus enables young musical prodigies to perfect their performance and meet up to form ensembles, all the while being supervised by great musicians. The film reveals the daily life of these talented musicians: the demanding classes and learning which they commit to, but also their meals together and their activities at the holiday camp.

The Musica Mundi course takes place in a calm and pastoral atmosphere, alongside the Genval lake, and is accompanied by the organisation of a classical music festival. A series of concerts of renowned artists is therefore also on the agenda; the youngsters attending the course have the chance to accompany them at the gala concert.
