Program notes

More than three hundred young pianists and cellists came from all over the world to Geneva in the hope of being distinguished during one of the most prestigious musical contest: the Geneva International Music Competition.

Being talented is not enough. The candidates have to possess not only a perfect technical mastery, a tremendous memory and a stress tolerance but also the capacity to move the audience. As explained by one of the members of the jury, to succeed in this ruthless world, it is necessary to have a strong mental and an extreme sensitivity.

Created in 1939 by Henri Gagnebin and Frédéric Liebstöckl, the Geneva International Music Competition aims at discovering, promoting and supporting young talented artists, giving them the necessary tools to launch an international career.
