Program notes

One of the most iconic french quartets of the 90s live on medici.tv!

A graduate from the Paris Conservatory, the Ysaÿe Quartet takes shape in 1984, when four friends find out they all have a passion for the composer they are now named after. The adventure led them to a very bright career around the world. At the Paris Conservatory, they now are the teachers.

The Cité de la musique hosts them as part of the String Quartets Biennial, founded ten years ago. They play Beethoven, Schumann and Rihm – a specialist of the genre, whose 13th string quartet was premiered on January 19, 2012 by the Arditti Quartet during this very same biennial.

This concert will also be available on www.citedelamusiquelive.tv and www.arteliveweb.com. It will be broadcast on France Musique on February 2.
