Program notes

The incredible Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the stellar Chamber Orchestra of Europe in a two-part Brahms Cycle with young piano prodigy Beatrice Rana, live from the Summer Festival 2022 at Baden-Baden!

The second and final part of the conductor's Brahms Cycle begins with Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, a masterpiece of lyricism and fantastical creativity, and a favorite of the public and performers alike, with its abundance of beautiful melodies. Brahms’s radiant Symphony No. 2 follows in a wonderfully classical form reminiscent of Mozart and Beethoven, especially in the last movement, where—according to the author and critic Eduard Hanslick—"Mozartian blood" flows.
