Yan Huichang conducts the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in a colorful program of traditional Chinese music The 2020 Grand Chinese New Year Concert

About

January 25, 2020 marks the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac—the first in the cycle of twelve signs, and thus an auspicious time for new beginnings. Award-winning conductor Yan Huichang leads the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in this concert from Müpa Budapest’s Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. The New Year festivities will highlight both traditional and contemporary works and feature talented soloists on the organ, the pipa (sometimes called the Chinese lute), and the sheng, a reed instrument that dates back over three thousand years.
