Program notes

The best Russian performers are at the Verbier Festival in 2015 alongside the Verbier Festival Orchestra to perform works by Mozart, Ravel and Tchaikovsky.

A prestigious cast will be reunited on stage at the Salle des Combins in Verbier: Valery Gergiev, one of the most prominent figures in the classical music world; and two generations of pianists that are well-renowned: Denis Matsuev and Daniil Trifonov – the 2011 Grand Prix at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition.

This performance will be extra-special as Valery Gergiev will also play the piano – a rare treat for the audience and medici.tv! Indeed, all three musicians will join forces to perfom Mozart's Concerto for three pianos and orchestra.

The rest of the program includes a performance of Ravel's Boléro, played as a tribute to ballet dancer Maya Plisetskaya, who passed away in May. Maurice Béjart's choreography, interpreted by the famour dancer, is projeted during the concert! The prima ballerina assoluta of the Bolshoi Theater, an unequalled dancer, ballet master and choreographer, Maya Plisetskaya was one of the most wonderful stars of the former Soviet Union, a ballet legend of the 20th century admired all around the world. Maurice Béjart, whose choreographed dances she performed very often (including his choreography for Ravel's Boléro), described her as "the last living legend of dance."

Valery Gergiev with also conduct Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 to close the concert.
