Program notes
#mediciverbier10 – Internationally acclaimed Swedish soprano Nina Stemme is one of the great Wagnerian singers of our generation and we are thrilled to present her in this programme conducted by Iván Fischer and devoted entirely to music by Wagner.
A grand dramatic soprano, Nina Stemme has been hailed the greatest Isolde, a role she has sung more than 80 times since 2003. Isolde remains her favourite role: "When I first played it at Glyndebourne, I found singing the more dramatic passages terrifying. Now they’re fine: it’s the ability to make quick emotional changes that is taxing. There are so many nuances to register."
The concert features arias from Wagner operas performed by Stemme alongside orchestral excerpts including the opening of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the Good Friday Music from Parsifal, the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isold and Twilight of the Gods.
