Program notes

In the opening concert of the 2016 MPHIL 360°, Daniel Lozakovich (violin), Katharina Ritschel (soprano), Sergej Semishkur (tenor), Albert Dohmen (baritone) and René Pape (bass) join the Philharmonischer Chor München and the Knabenstimmen der Augsburger Domsingknaben under the baton of Valery Gergiev to perform Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1 in D Major, Op. 25 "Symphonie classique", Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major and the III. Aufzug from Wagner's Parsifal.

For this year’s MPHIL 360°, Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker join forces with the world-renowned Mariinsky Orchestra of St. Petersburg to put together a musical celebration of impressive proportions! The three day festival presents all of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies and piano sonatas, all five of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s violin concerti as well as selected piano sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti and works by Richard Wagner and Edward Elgar. Stars and star-ensembles of today’s classical music world will also be taking part in the performances, in particular honorees of the International Tchaikovsky competition.
