The finale of Rodion Shchedrin's 85th birthday concert series features a fully-staged performance of Shchedrin's first opera, Not Love Alone. Mezzo-soprano Yekaterina Sergeyeva, tenor Alexander Trofimov, soprano Natalia Pavlova, and bass Pavel Smulevich lead a talented group of singers, joined by the Mariinksy Theater Orchestra under the baton of the great Valery Gergiev.
The great Russian composer and pianist Rodion Shchedrin turns 85 years old on December 16th, 2017, and in celebration, the Moscow Philharmonie and Mariinsky Theater host a grand series of concerts featuring all-Shchedrin programs. Mikhail Pletnev leads the Russian National Orchestra and Valery Gergiev leads the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, joined by some of the most accomplished Russian musicians in today's international classical music scene, including cellist Mischa Maisky, soprano Pelageya Kuriennaya, and International Tchaikovsky competition laureates Alexander Ramm (cello) and Sergey Redkin (piano), not to mention the great Rodion Shchedrin himself!
