Valery Gergiev leads the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and Chorus in the third concert of the Rodion Shchedrin 85th birthday concert series. Soloists include soprano Pelageya Kurennaya, bass Andrey Serov, violinist Olga Volkova, folk singer Natalia Boriskova, and 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition laureates Alexander Ramm (cello) and Sergey Redkin (piano). The program includes Shchedrin's Symphonic Diptych based on his opera The Enchanted Wanderer, his Concerto Cantabile for Violin and String Orchestra, his Double Concerto for Piano, Cello, and Orchestra, "Romantic Offering", and closes with Lenin is Amongst Us, his oratorio for Soloists, Mixed Choir, and Symphonic Orchestra.

The great Russian composer and pianist Rodion Shchedrin turns 85 years old on December 16th, 2017, and in celebration, the Moscow Philharmonie and Mariinsky Theater host a grand series of concerts featuring all-Shchedrin programs. Mikhail Pletnev leads the Russian National Orchestra and Valery Gergiev leads the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, joined by some of the most accomplished Russian musicians in today's international classical music scene, including cellist Mischa Maisky, soprano Pelageya Kuriennaya, and International Tchaikovsky competition laureates Alexander Ramm (cello) and Sergey Redkin (piano), not to mention the great Rodion Shchedrin himself!
