Glazunov's Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 12 make up the program of this Russian soirée at the Philharmonie de Paris! The virtuoso violinist Vadim Repin joins the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse under the direction of Maestro Tugan Sokhiev.
Premiered by Leopold Auer, Glazunov's Violin Concerto is a luminous work composed in 1904, at a time when the seeds of the Russian Revolution were being planted. Nicknamed “The Year 1917,” Shostakovich's Symphony No. 12 is dedicated to the memory of Lenin and remembers the events of that revolution. In pairing these two works, the program plunges us to the heart of two radically different periods in Russia's history.
