Program notes
Maestro Stéphane Denève leads a tribute to one of his all-time favorites, French composer Maurice Ravel, broadcast live from De Doelen Concert Hall! Under the baton of the illustrious conductor, the Rotterdam Philharmonic accompanies the wickedly talented Lucas Debargue on the piano. The concert begins with the Piano Concerto in G Major, a 20th-century masterpiece that bubbles with jazz elements in the two faster movements, with an achingly lyrical and nostalgic Adagio assai nestled between them. The orchestra then performs the world-famous Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose), an enchanting and poetic orchestral suite that will keep your reverie going even after the final note is struck.
