Percussion is at the center of this concert from Toulouse's La Halle aux Grains. Experience masterpieces of the 20th century and a French premiere: MacMillan's Percussion Concerto No. 2, a co-commission of the ONCT.
Russian conductor Tugan Sokhiev conducts here Viennese composer Anton Webern's Passacaglia in D minor (1908) and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 7 in C-sharp Minor, op. 131, for which the composer posthumously received the Lenin Prize. The work is considered one of his lightest, most accessible and melodious symphonies.
In 2000, British percussionist Colin Currie performed another composition by James MacMillan with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. This time, he joined Tugan Sokhiev and the ONCT for the French premiere of MacMillan's Percussion Concerto No. 2, a work co-commissioned by the ONCT.
