Program notes

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra embarks on a European tour of Germany and Austria’s most prestigious concert halls under the baton of the famous Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan. Their performance at the illustrious Wiener Musikverein features solo concertos by contemporary Maltese composers Albert Garzia and Alexey Shor.

The concert begins with Albert Garzia’s new composition Kewn (which means “existence”) for solo viola and orchestra, and features David Aaron Carpenter as soloist. Alexey Shor’s beloved "Travel Notebook" Piano Concerto follows, with pianist Nareh Arghamanyan taking listeners on a musical journey around the world.

The Malta Philharmonic's tour is organized by the European Foundation for Support of Culture.
