Program notes

The teacher and student: Sergei Babayan gives a recital for two pianos in the company of the young piano star Daniil Trifonov, who triumphed true phenomenon in recent years. We bet the complicity between these two players will be deep, and a musical miracle may well reveal itself before our eyes!

They interpret a program full of poetry, with two suites for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninov and the Transcendental Études S. 139 by Franz Liszt.

The two Rachmaninov suites for piano, composed while the composer was was only twenty years old are real jewels of the Russian repertoire. It includes all the freshness of the youth through poetry and dance themes around which it refers in its first and second movements.

In a highly complex execution, the Transcendental Études are also imbued with a poetry that reveals both their musicality in the way as each of these studies present the "Landscape" through "Harmonies du Soir," ending with "Snowplow." They are undoubtedly among the year to place more beautiful piano sheet music in the romantic repertoire.
