Program notes

Violinist Ray Chen and pianist Julien Quentin give a concert at the Verbier Church, broadcast live on medici.tv.

Violinist Ray Chen has been awarded the first prize at the International Yehudi Menuhin Competition in 2008, and the first prize at the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition. For Goetz Richter, he is "One of the most talented violinist in Australia."

Pianist Julien Quentin is a very sought-after soloist and chamber musician. His international tours led him to play in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, in the USA, in Australia, in Japan, and in Eastern Europe. As a chamber musician, he has worked with such talented artists as Emanuel Ax, Lisa Batiashvili, Measha Brueggergosman, Corey Cerovsek, Michael Collins, Sol Gabetta, David Garrett, Nelson Goerner, Ilya Gringolts, Gary Hoffman, Angelika Kirchschlager, Lawrence Power, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Sayaka Shoji, Kirill Troussov & Tatjana Vassiljeva.

Together, they will perform Mozart's Sonata for violin and piano in A Major de Mozart, and Sarasate's Spanish dances. They will also play his most famous work, Zigeunerweisen, composed for violin and orchestra in 1878. As far as Beethoven is concerned, they will play his Sonata for violin and piano No. 9 in A Major, the "Kreutzer Sonata", the composer's best-known – and longest – sonata for violin and piano.
