Program notes
Join the illustrious Järvi family in Pärnu, Estonia for a festival brimming with talent and enthusiasm—according to newspaper Die Welt, "these are simply musicians having the time of their lives." Experience that joyful energy at home through four exceptional concerts blending iconic masterworks from the classical repertoire and less frequently played gems.
This fourth concert in the series begins with a work by esteemed Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The Collage über B-A-C-H pays tribute to the great Baroque composer through a playful transcription of his name, spelling out in music notes the letters B, A, C, and H (the German notation for Bb). Next, maestro Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra are joined by oboe soloist François Leleux for Strauss's Concerto in D major, before concluding the program with Tchaikovsky's splendid Symphony No. 1.
