Program notes

"God has taken his eyes, but given him the physical endowment and mental endowment to encompass the greatest works of piano."(Menahem Pressler, Cliburn juror, in the documentary A Surprise in Texas)

Nobuyuki Tsujii, the 25 year-old Japanese pianist, was born blind, which did not stop him from gaining world fame thanks to his incredible talent.

The virtuoso started his piano lessons at the age of four, and won his first prize when he turned seven, winning the All Japan Music of Blind Students contest.

In 2009, Tsujii competed the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and tied for the gold medal with Haochen Zhang.

In the documentary available on medici.tv A Surprise in Texas, presenting the thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition following the young pianists, he was one of the competitors prominently featured.

On April 17th, at the Louvre Auditorium, Nobu will play masterpieces by Chopin, Liszt, Paganini, Wagner and Gounod. Don't miss his performance on medici.tv!
