Program notes

The violinist Leonidas Kavakos conducts the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in a Bach and Mozart programme!

The Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who plays four times this years at the Verbier Festival, including two concerts broadcast on medici.tv, is also a talented conductor.

To open this concert, he joins forces with another violin virtuoso, Janine Jansen, to perform Bach's Double concerto. Following this, he conducts one of the world's most famous symphonies, Mozart's Fourtieth, a true monument of the orchestral repertoire. Second concerto of this concert: the Violin Concerto BWV 1042, with its quiet and sublime Adagio. The concert closes with the last symphony every written by Mozart (he was aged 32 only): the Jupiter.
