Program notes

Every year, the French city of Reims opens its doors to musicians of all stripes for the Flâneries Musicales! One of the highlights of this year's festival: the young virtuoso cellist Anastasia Kobekina and award-winning pianist Artur Pizarro in a recital featuring works by Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninov.

A recital of music for cello and piano composed by some of the most beloved Russian composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries!

Declared "one of the most promising talents of her generation" (Vladimir Spivakov), the young cellist Anastasia Kobekina debuted with orchestra at age six and has gone on to play with orchestras like Moscow Virtuosi, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and Mariinsky Theater Orchestra under conductors like Krzysztov Penderecki, Vladimir Spivakov and Valery Gergiev. She won first prize at the 2015 TONALi Competition in Hamburg, Germany and became a semi-finalist at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.

Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro, who himself made his public concert debut at age 3, is an award-winning concert pianist and recitalist, with first prizes from the Concours Vianna da Motta and the Leeds International Piano Competition. He has worked with numerous celebrated conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Andrew Davis, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Franz Welser- Most, Tugan Sokhiev, Vladimir Jurowski, and Sir Charles Mackerras.
