Program notes

French pianist Jean-Philippe Collard and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) under the direction of maestro Kent Nagano present a concert of music by Ravel et Dukas as part of the OSM's 2017 Classical Spree Festival!

Jean-Philippe Collard opens the concert with Ravel's tragic Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D Major, a piece commissioned by the Austrian pianist Paul Wittgenstein after losing his right arm at the front during the First World War. The OSM then performs Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the celebrated symphonic poem immortalized in Walt Disney's classic animated film Fantasia.
