The superlative British pianist Christian Blackshaw joins I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra under the baton of their artistic director Jean-Marie Zeitouni for a performance of Mozart's darkly beautiful Piano Concerto No. 24. The program also features Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 and a world premiere from the celebrated Quebec composer Julien Bilodeau, live from the Maison symphonique de Montréal.
Two years ago, Christian Blackshaw's performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27 with I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra received the resounding applause of Montréal audiences and critics alike. Now he is back to celebrate the opening of the ensemble's 2017/2018 season! The concert program opens with Overture Lente, a world premiere by Julien Bilodeau. Next Blackshaw takes the stage for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, whose beautiful musical dialoguing between piano and orchestra features some of the composer's most exquisite writing for winds. The concert closes with Beethoven's "Pastoral" Symphony, whose evocative landscapes and musical storytelling are superbly elevated by the glorious acoustics of Montréal's Maison symphonique.
Founded in 1983 by the cellist-conductor Yuli Turovsky, I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra is an innovative chamber orchestra made up of a core of 15 talented string players. Now led by their young artistic director Jean-Marie Zeitouni, the orchestra presents an annual season of nine concerts in the Maison symphonique de Montréal and the Salle Bourgie.
