Jan Lisiecki — Pianist

Program notes

Meet again the young pianist Jan Lisiecki, who, as young as 19 years-old, is already very familiar with the Verbier Festival – and medici.tv!

Ever since his early beginnings with orchestra at the age of 9, Jan Lisiecki has played with the Metropolitan Orchestra, the OSM, the OSQ, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Cracovia, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, The BBC Symphony Orchestra... These collaborations have led him to work with the greatest conductors: Kent Nagano, Paavo Järvi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jiri Belohavek... He was named Young Artist of the Year at the 2013 Gramophone Awards, and he is now one of the most promising pianists of his generation.

This year, he was invited for the fourth year in a row by the Verbier Festival, and at only 19, Jan Lisiecki is already very familiar with the place. For his first recital at the salle des Combins, he will play works by Chopin, as he is already a specialist of the composer's scores (in 2010, he recorded Chopin's two piano concertos and in spring 2013, he recorded the two books of Etudes, opus 10 and 25), but also Grieg and Mendelssohn.
